A Game Changer For Senior Care

As part of our mission to bring light, hope, and dignity beyond a diagnosis to seniors living with Alzheimer’s disease (and related dementias), we’ve partnered with ALLE Learning to offer an at-home engagement program for seniors, called Engaging At HomeEngaging At Home combines research and expertise to create a wrap-around approach that provides online resources for members, families, and caregivers to access 24/7.  Below, we’ve provided you with an example of one of the many fun and reflective engagement opportunities available, with an Engaging at Home activity: Getting To Know You!

“Getting to Know You”

One of the many benefits of Engaging At Home’s resources is that the programs are built around real-life topics that encourage reflection, conversation, and recall.

With this “Getting To Know You” activity, you’ll receive 16 different holiday-themed and thought provoking question flash cards, to use for a fun way to connect with your loved one.

While going through these questions with your loved one, we encourage you to use personal experiences with memories to enhance the questions and create powerful and dynamic discussion. You may also consider taking time in between to listen to music, watch clips of favorite holiday movies, or pull out holiday pictures as they relate to the conversation – to fully encourage cognitive stimulation through different sensory stimulators.

Creating meaning for every person living with dementia or other age-related challenges is an important cornerstone within Oakwood Creative Care’s vision. Research tells us that seeing images, hearing stories, and singing songs that are familiar bring past memories to the present in invaluable moments of joy and reflection. Try the Getting To Know You activity with your loved one at home and discover the difference creating moments of laughter, creativity, and lifelong learning can make!
With an Engaging At Home membership, participants gain access to a full library of activity materials, Wellness & FItness videos for seniors, engaging and age-appropriate topics, unlimited access to all online materials, and a world of fun for caregivers and families, too.

Welcome

We're a nonprofit organization based in Mesa, Arizona with three senior day club locations (and a fourth on the way) which serve older adults with Alzheimer's, dementia, Parkinson's, and various other physical or cognitive challenges. Life does not end with a diagnosis. Our members continue to learn new skills, enjoy new discoveries, make friends, laugh, and live a joy-filled life. Our team of dementia experts lead support groups, events, classes, and private sessions with caregivers and families, guiding them on the best methods to care for their loved ones while also caring for themselves.
