Meet the Oakwood Staff | Nikki
Every few weeks we will highlight one of the AWESOME members of our Oakwood family. These amazing staff members give so much of themselves and they love what they do! So pull up a chair and get to know a little bit about our people!
“I found that I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way- things I had no words for” - Georgia O’Keeffe
Art and helping individuals’ mental health through a creative process is my passion and something that is very important to me. I have worked in the art field professionally all of my life and find myself incorporating creativity wherever I am.
While receiving my BFA from California University in PA, I lost my Grandma. Visiting her in assisted living inspired me to want to make a difference with what was going on and being offered to individuals at those facilities. Recently I found myself in a similar situation when I lost my father. I witnessed a lack of creative outlets and personal engagements for people. I decided I wanted to do something more meaningful with my art and make a difference in the lives of others.
My creative journey found me driving across the country through blazing hot dirt roads lined with cactuses and arriving in Phoenix, Arizona in September of 2018. It was here that I was lucky to find Oakwood Creative Care. My eyes and heart opened up to this breath of fresh air. Finding a creative day club that engages every individual and embraces art and creativity is beyond inspiring. I am so thankful to be the new Teaching Artist at the Town Center Campus. I look forward to making a difference in the daily lives of Oakwood’s members and making their moments count. I welcome the exploration of new multimedia projects that engage meaningful experiences in a place that welcomes my unique talents.
